Being bold can mean different things to different people.
When I was growing up, being bold meant doing something completely out of the prescribed box.
And what did my box look like? It meant good grades, going to school, getting a good job, marrying a nice boy, and having two lovely children.
And of course, I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
But does life have to look the same ‘on the outside’ for everyone?
What would happen if we – oh — took a trip to the other side of the world and took the kids out of school – and lived a life of adventure for a year?
What would it look like? Is it possible?
Yes, it is possible.
We did it! If you love to travel you might like to check out our family travel blog at www.travelpod.com/members/elfordfamily I wrote it just for us and family and friends who were interested in what we were up to when we were away. But you might find it interesting. And it’s proof!
We lived “outside of the box” for a while.
That was my BOLD move.
Resigning my clients, putting careers on hold, pulling the kids out of school, renting our house, and taking the kids on a travel year to the other side of the world.
The travel year I longed for when I was a student and couldn’t afford.
The travel year that was put on hold time and time again as we needed to pay bills, build our careers, buy a house…
And the travel year that we finally decided to STOP putting on hold and go do, before life passed us by….
We had an incredible experience – one that we will remember and relish for a lifetime.
And it was BOLD.
And it was SCARY.
And we had many second thoughts. But it happened. We did it. And guess what?
Our house wasn’t trashed. We got work again when we returned home. Our kids learned lots on their travels and picked up right where they left off with their friends when we came back.
And we were BOLD.
And it felt GOOD.
What would it take for you to be BOLD?
What does BOLD mean to you?
Is it quitting a job you hate? Is it asking that guy you see at the gym out on a date? Is it taking the kids out of school for a day so you can have a super special fun day with them – off schedule, impromptu and off the grid (AKA: NO CELL PHONES ALLOWED.)
What does BOLD really mean?
I’d love to hear what BOLD means to you. Let me know in the comments section below.
Bold – crazy – wild – dreams.
What would it take for you to be BOLD in your life?
